Lakewood is conveniently located next to JBLM and Tacoma. This city is rich in history and home to well-known historical estates. Lakewold Gardens was built in 1910 and locally renowned by 1913. Spanning 10 acres, this property is now open to visitors year round. Another famous location is Thornwood Castle, built in 1908. This estate has been featured in tv shows, and Oscar-winning movies, but operates daily as a B&B and event venue. Fort Steilacoom Park, although not an estate is steeped in history as well. What once served as a military base, then a farm is now a large park. Fort Steilacoom is full of trails and features a lake, baseball fields, soccer fields, a castle-themed playground, and an off-leash dog park. Lakewood is also home to American Lake, which has parks with swimming beaches, playgrounds, and boat launches. Within this city, you'll also find multiple golf courses, the Lakewood Playhouse, and Grand Prix Raceway, one of the fastest indoor go kart racing tracks in the country.
